In 1995, a group of interested people came together to look at the possibility of setting up a community radio station in Mansfield. Temporary broadcasting licences were obtained and the station commenced broadcasting for short periods, presenting a variety of quality programs.
On the 15th December 1997 Radio Mansfield began broadcasting as Mansfield Community Radio 3MCR, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from the old station masters house near the railway station in Mansfield. In November 2005 the radio station moved to new studios in the Café Connect building centrally located in the main street of Mansfield.
When these premises were destroyed by fire in September 2014, the station spent some months broadcasting from the OB (outside broadcasting) van before moving into the current studios at 10 Bank Place.
Currently 34 volunteers present 75 hours of live programs each week, 16 hours which are also relayed to our sister station Radio Murrundindi UGFM in Alexandra. The station presents a variety of programs including local news and current affairs, quizzes and competitions and all types of music including Country, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Celtic, Techno and Rock. Local schools participate in regular programs and a group of Yooralla clients present 3 hours of programs each week. We present live football coverage at local matches and regularly broadcast at community events from our outside broadcast van. We are also accredited emergency broadcasters.
